Foragers Table in Chelsea opened in 2012 with a firm belief that every product they sell should be locally sourced, sustainable and organic. Foragers also has several Market locations (DUMBO, Chelsea and Brooklyn) where they sell artisanal foods, and fresh meats and produce. The restaurant sources most of their produce from their own farm in Canaan, NY.
I came to dine at Foragers during a recent work visit to New York. This place has great reviews on Yelp. We had reservations for 6:30pm on a weekday, and it was packed by 7pm. We sat at the chef’s table for a prime view of the kitchen. Always entertaining!
Executive chef Nickolas Martinez has developed a menu with so many delicious choices: charcuterie, eggplant dip, octopus carpaccio, deviled eggs, cheese plate, farm salads, duck breast, pork chop, roasted chicken, bone-in steak, and several side vegetables.
Their monthly 3-course tasting menu for $39 is great value as well.
I ordered the octopus ceviche and farm salad which were both so tasty and light. The salad’s hummus dressing and tomatoes were incredibly fresh.
The octopus slices in the ceviche were razor-thin, made Asian by the yusu vinaigrette and black sesame sprinkled on top. It also had lots of freshly cracked pepper which was just perfect.
My companion had the roasted chicken which she said was incredible. In fact, she had ordered it as takeout the prior night, and liked it so much she ordered it again! Now that is loyalty. 🙂
I noticed a few Foragers postcards on the counter with various hand-drawn pictures. The server was so friendly and brought over the rest of the designs. I thought my kids would love them so I took one of each. So cute! The bartender was also super attentive and friendly, frequently asking us if we needed drinks or any other food dishes.
Overall, I really enjoyed the visit to Foragers. I would definitely return. And, next time I will definitely check out the Markets as well.
